Early Times Report AKHNOOR, Nov 26: Government Degree College (GDC) Akhnoor celebrated Constitution Day (Samvidhan Divas) on 26 November with great enthusiasm and patriotic spirit. The event aimed to honour the adoption of the Indian Constitution and reinforce the core values of justice, liberty, equality, and fraternity among the students. The programme commenced with a warm welcome address by Prof. (Dr.) Romilla Malla Bhat, Principal, GDC Akhnoor, followed by a floral tribute to Dr. B. R. Ambedkar, Bharat Ratna the principal architect of the Indian Constitution. A key highlight of the celebration was the collective reading of the Preamble, during which students, faculty members, and staff reaffirmed their commitment to the democratic ideals enshrined in the Constitution. Mohan Lal Bhagat, MLA, Akhnoor, graced the ceremony as the chief guest and delivered an insightful address on the relevance of constitutional values in contemporary society. In his remarks, he emphasised the importance of civic responsibility, constitutional literacy, and the vital role of youth in strengthening democratic ethics. Principal Prof. (Dr.) Romilla Malla Bhat extended heartfelt appreciation to the organising committee for conducting an informative and engaging programme. She highlighted the significance of Constitution Day as a reminder of India's rich democratic heritage and encouraged students to become informed, responsible, and constitutionally aware citizens. The event also featured a variety of activities showcasing the creativity, knowledge, and civic awareness of the students. The programme was jointly organised by the Department of Political Science, headed by Dr. Shandliya Perminder Kour, and the Cultural & Literary Committee, headed by Dr. Sandhya Rani, The programme witnessed enthusiastic participation from both teaching and non-teaching staff, as well as students. The students actively took part in Saraswati Vandana, poster making, rangoli, and delivered insightful speeches on various constitutional themes. Prof. Neelam Thapa conducted the proceedings of the event, while Dr. Anju Bala highlighted significant Constitutional Acts that emphasise the rights of women. |
