JAMMU, Nov 26: BJP J&K Spokesperson Gaurav Gupta today hailed Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the NDA government for restoring the "true dignity and spirit" of Constitution Day, asserting that the nation now celebrates November 26 with the respect it always deserved.
Gupta said the Constitution of India is not merely a legal document but a guiding force that shapes the country's democratic and developmental journey, and it is the Modi government that revived national consciousness around this historic day.
He recalled that when the Constitution completed 60 years in 2010, the then UPA government "allowed the moment to pass without giving it the honour befitting such a milestone."
Gupta said, "For the Congress-led UPA, Constitution Day was just another date on the calendar. Their apathy reflected their long-standing habit of ignoring the nation's institutions and legacy."
He contrasted this with the NDA's approach, stating that it was Prime Minister Narendra Modi in 2015 who declared November 26 as Constitution Day, ensuring that the nation collectively pays tribute to the framers of the Constitution "from Dr. Rajendra Prasad to Dr. B.R. Ambedkar and all members of the Constituent Assembly who shaped India's destiny."
Calling PM Modi a leader who "deeply respects India's democratic ethos," Gupta added "Under the NDA, Constitution Day has become a symbol of national pride. PM Modi has consistently honoured the visionaries who built the Republic, and he continues to advance a Constitution-driven governance model that empowers every citizen." Taking another swipe at the opposition, Gupta said the Congress and its allies "only remember the Constitution when it suits their political rhetoric, not when it comes to safeguarding its spirit."
He remarked that the opposition's track record shows "selective respect for institutions, selective outrage, and complete indifference toward commemorating the nation's foundational moments."
Gupta concluded that under the Modi-led NDA, Constitution Day has regained its rightful place as a national celebration of India's democratic, social, and cultural strength, reflecting the government's commitment to transparency, justice, equality, and inclusive development. |
