| Pollution Started Swallowing the Seasons: Changing Weather, Decreasing Life | | | Dr. Vijay Garg
India has had its own sequence of six seasons (spring, summer, rainfall, autumn, hemant and shishir) for centuries. Each season came with its own unique beauty, weather and lifestyle. But today, this natural order is breaking due to increasing pollution and climate change. It seems as if the pollution demon has started slowly swallowing our beloved seasons. The deterioration form of the change of seasons Now in North India, especially, only three main seasons are experienced instead of six: winter, summer and rainy. And they also do not come at their fixed time. Extinct Hemant and Shishir (winter): The first was felt by the end of October, which turned into a severe cold in December-January. Now, due to global heat (global warming), the monsoon is expanding. Monsoon rains also continue to fall from October-November, and the temperature suddenly drops, almost ending the pleasant feeling of Hemant season. The cold time has also decreased. Missing spring wind: Spring (March-April) was considered a pleasant weather. But now for the past few years, heat wave (extreme heat) starts from March-April. As a result, the spring wind is not felt and directly has to endure heat. Irregular rainfall: Pollution and climate change have also changed the pattern of monsoon. Somewhere excessive rain is flooding, then much less rains are drying up, which has completely messed up the agricultural calendar. Direct effect of pollution and global warming The main reason for this change is man -made pollution and its product glovaring. Air pollution (smog): The toxic fog (smog) that spreads on cities in winter prevents sunlight from reaching the earth. This lowers the night temperature, but does not give that natural feeling of cold during the day, which interrupts winter enjoyment. Greenhouse Gases: Burning fossil fuels has increased the level of carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases at a dangerous rate. These gases prevent heat from going out by forming a layer around the earth, which is increasing average global temperature. This increased temperature is spoiling the time and intensity of seasons. Ozone vacancy: Air pollution also damages the ozone layer in the troposphere, which increases the threat to life on Earth and deteriorates seasonal balance. Serious consequences on health and agriculture This disruption of seasons is having a direct impact on our lives: Health crisis: Sudden rise and fall of temperature, smog and contaminated water are increasing respiratory diseases (asthma), allergies, heart disease and infectious diseases such as dengue, malaria. Loss of agriculture: The crop cycle is breaking due to irregular rainfall and temperature increase. Important crops such as paddy, wheat and cotton are being affected, threatening food security. The chaotic cycle of the weather Pollution, especially increasing particulate matter and greenhouse gases in the air, are constantly raising temperatures. It has a direct effect on the weather cycle. The heat is starting to be long and sharp, while the winter is short and irregular. The rain has started to be more than expected, sometimes extremely low and untimely. Now the seasons are changing according to pollution levels, not calendars. The fog swallowed the mornings and evenings The winter mist, once considered a symbol of beauty, has now taken the form of smog. In Delhi, Punjab, Haryana and most cities in North India, the thick sheet of smog has started hiding even sunlight. In such a situation, the pleasure of autumn and Hemant has started disappearing. People are starting to feel less weather and pollution. The balance of nature is deteriorating Unusual changes in temperature due to pollution are affecting the life cycle of trees and animals. The flowers do not bloom at their scheduled time. They have changed their traditional ways of traveling. The time of sowing and harvesting crops is also becoming disorganized. This imbalance is a threat to food security and ecological stability. Loss of autumn feelings In childhood memories, the smell of spring flowers, yellow mustard beauty, savanna fragrance, bright autumn sun is probably blurred forever. Today’s generation is not happy with the weather, feeling more pollution. Seasons are no longer a matter of experience, statistics and warnings. Direction of solution If we do not wake up now, then in the coming time, only books will remain. It is necessary for this— Strict control over air pollution sources Technical solutions for paralyzing management and cooperation to farmers Reduction in emissions of vehicles and industries Large-scale plantation Environmental awareness in the public The solution is possible only with collective efforts, because pollution is also a collective problem. Conclusion Pollution has not only captured our lifestyle, but also the atmospheric cycle of nature. The extinction of seasons is not only a crisis of the environment, but also our culture and existence. If we don’t act now, generations to come will only read Spring, Autumn and Hemant in stories. Solution: A collective effort This crisis is no longer limited to the metropolitan areas, but has poisoned the air and water of all India. Immediate action is required on this: Pollution Control: Air, Water and at the individual and government level Pollution Control: Taking strict measures to reduce air, water and land pollution at individual and government level. Renewable energy: Adoption of renewable sources such as solar and wind energy by reducing dependence on fossil fuels. Forest conservation and plantation: Preventing deforestation and large-scale planting, as trees play an important role in purifying the environment. This precious gift given by nature, we have to save our seasons. If we do not show mindfulness now, then the coming generations will only be able to read about the spring wind and the pleasant knock of Hemant in books. |
