Udhampur, Nov 26: Under the guidance of Deputy Commissioner Udhampur Ms. Saloni Rai IAS and the overall supervision of District Child Protection Officer Udhampur Ms. Kanika Gupta, JKAS, a successful rescue operation was conducted on 25-11-2025.
The operation rescued a 16 year-old minor girl from a child marriage in Rasli Gadheran area of Tehsil Basantgarh.
A call was received on 1098 Child Helpline on 24-11-2025, reporting the child marriage. The Child Helpline promptly verified the case and, upon receiving documentary evidence, confirmed the child’s age as 16 years.
The Child Helpline Coordinator and Counselor apprised the DCPO and a rescue team comprises of Coordinator, Counselor & Case Worker of Child Helpline, Protection Officer NIC Punam and Social Worker Gourav of DCPU, Health Department officals and Police Party of PS Basantgarh.
The minor girl was rescued and produced before CWC on the same day. The CWC placed the child at One Stop Centre for temporary shelter.
