AMRITSAR, Nov 27: Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), Jammu & Kashmir Branch Office (JKBO), successfully conducted a two-day Capacity Building Program for officials of the Public Works Department (PWD), Amritsar, on 26-27 November 2025 at the Meeting Hall of the PWD Rest House, Amritsar. The program was organized under the guidance and support of Inderjit Singh, SE, PWD Amritsar, and was inaugurated by Dilbagh Singh, XEN, PWD Amritsar. Around 50 officials, including SDOs, Assistant Engineers, Sub-Divisional Engineers, Junior Engineers, and technical staff from the district, actively participated in the sessions. Kamal Jit Ghai, Resource Person, delivered comprehensive technical presentations covering modules designed by BIS NITS Noida. His sessions focused on critical areas such as: Role of BIS in Standardization & Quality Assurance of Pipes Good Construction Practices: Masonry, RCC & Steel Optimizing Construction Projects: Standards in Project Management Innovations in Building Materials & Technologies Building Material Testing and Quality Assurance Building Services: HVAC and Plumbing Systems Waterproofing Solutions for Wet Areas as per BIS Standards Retrofitting and Revitalization of Existing Structures On the second day, Tilak Raj, Director & Head, BIS JKBO, addressed the participants and emphasized the vital role of BIS in ensuring standardization, safety, and quality in public infrastructure projects. He highlighted the importance of capacity building in strengthening the technical proficiency of PWD officials for improved public service delivery. Ghai also demonstrated the use of the BIS Care App for verifying the authenticity of ISI-marked products, while encouraging officials to ensure compliance with relevant Indian Standards (IS) in all municipal and public works. The program was coordinated by Ashish Kumar Dwivedi, BIS JKBO. The initiative aimed to sensitize PWD officials on adopting best practices, standardized procedures, and quality-centric approaches to enhance public utility services and promote consumer welfare. |
