Speaker meets chairperson of House Committees

Srinagar, May18- Urging the newly-appointed Chairmen of various House Committees to explore ways and means for ensuring effective, expeditious, transparent and result-oriented functioning of these Committees and strictly abiding by the Rules of Procedure and Conduct of Business in the Legislative Assembly, the Speaker M A Lone said that “we are the public servants and supposed to serve the people at large in different capacities. However, he maintained that we have to work under a definite system already existing in the state”.
The meeting was attended by Minister for Finance, Law and Parliamentary Affairs, Abdul Rahim Rather, Deputy Speaker, J&K Legislative Assembly, Sartaj Madni, Chairman, Committee on Public Accounts, Mohammad Ramzan, Chairman, Committee on Public Undertakings, Abdul Rehman Veeri, Chairman, Committee on Subordinate Legislation, Ch. Mohammad Aslam, Chairman, Committee on Privileges, Mubarak Ahmed Gul, Chairman, Committee on Petitions, Ashok Khajuria and Chairman Committee on Environment, Nizam-ud-Din Bhat.
Besides, the meeting was attended by Commissioner/Secretary, GAD, Basharat Ahmed Dhar, Secretary and J&K Legislative Assembly, Mohammad Ramzan and other senior officers.
The Speaker said the legislature is the supreme authority and the recommendations of various Committees should be implemented in letter and spirit by the Executive.
Impressing upon effective coordination and cooperation between the legislature and the executive, Lone said irresponsible attitude by any officer shall be taken seriously and action shall be taken against him.
Responding to various suggestions of the legislators, Lone assured that, in future, implementation of reports shall be ensured and any lapse shall be taken note of very seriously.
Regarding accommodation facilities in certain metropolitan cities of the country being extended to State legislators, Lone asked the Finance Minister to take immediate steps for providing suitable accommodation to the legislators there. He asked JK House authorities in New Delhi to give preference to State legislators during their visit to the Union capital.
Lone called upon the fourth estate to highlight business of J&K Assembly through print and electronic media regularly.
Lone, while welcoming the suggestion of nomination of one Member for each Committee, said this suggestion shall be considered.
Chairmen of various Committees who attended the meeting also addressed and projected various demands and gave suggestions.
