| World Hypertension Day | | 30% population suffering from hypertension | | Early Times Report
Srinagar, May 18- Nearly 25 to 30 percent population in Kashmir was suffering from hypertension and the consumption of salt was around 12 grams per day. This was revealed at a function organized in connection with the World Hypertension Day. The experts urged the participants to reduce salt intake by half which would save approximately 2.5 million people a year dying of strokes, heart attacks and chronic kidney diseases worldwide. The experts informed that the World Health Organization (WHO) and several countries around the world currently recommend reducing salt intake to six grams a day which is equivalent to one teaspoon. Ikhlas Welfare Society Kashmir organized a medical camp at Khangund Tral, about 53 kms from here on the occasion of the World Hypertension Day. This year’s theme was "Salt and High Blood Pressure: Two Silent Killers". During the camp 180 patients of High Blood Pressure were treated and health education was imparted to all. Drugs provided by Cadila Company were given free to all patients.
