| 15th Lok Sabha constituted | | PM submits resignation | | Agencies
New Delhi, May 18: Paving the way for government formation, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has submitted the resignation of the Council of Ministers headed by him to President Pratibha Patil, who has dissolved the 14th Lok Sabha with immediate effect paving the way for constitution of the new House which is expected later this month. Soon after the meeting of the Union Cabinet which decided to recommend to the President dissolution of the 14th Lok Sabha, the Prime Minister drove to Rashtrapati Bhavan to submit the resignation of his Council of Ministers to the President. "The Prime Minister has submitted the resignation to the President who asked him and his Council of Ministers to continue in office till an alternative arrangement is made," a Rashtrapati Bhavan spokesperson said. "The Union Cabinet had recommended to the President to dissolve the 14th Lok Sabha with immediate effect. The President has accepted the recommendations and signed an order dissolviong the 14th Lok Sabha," the spokesperson added. The meeting between the President and the Prime Minister lasted for about 35 minutes. Earlier, the Union Cabinet adopted a resolution moved by External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee, who is also Leader of the Lok Sabha, for dissolution of the House. It was seconded by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. The Council of Ministers also met during which the Prime Minister thanked the allies for their support to the government in the last five years. Meanwhile, the 15th Lok Sabha was constituted today with the Election Commission submitting the list of all elected representatives of the recently concluded Parliamentary elections to President Pratibha Patil. "We met the President and gave the formal list of all elected representatives to the 15th Lok Sabha. With this, the constitution of the Lok Sabha is completed," Chief Election Commissioner Navin Chawla told reporters here. The model code of conduct also comes to an end, Chawla, flanked by the other two Election Commissioners -- S Y Quraishi and V S Sampat -- said. "Now the 15th Lok Sabha is formed," Quraishi said. Chawla said once the list of elected MPs was given to the President, the entire process of the Lok Sabha election comes to an end. "The President will now go for the government formation," he said. A Rashtrapati Bhavan spokesperson also said Chawla, accompanied by the two ECs, submitted a copy of notification issued by the Election Commission containing names of the members elected to the House to the President.
