| Farooq against excessive class room work | | | Early Times Report Srinagar May 19 Expressing concern over increasing focus on classroom teaching, former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister and National Conference president Farooq Abdullah said it was hampering personality development of the youths. "Unfortunately the focus has nowadays shifted to classroom teaching, and due to excessive classroom competition and commercialisation of education sector, the personality development of the youths has suffered," the Member of Parliament (MP) from Srinagar, Dr Abdullah said after he was elected president of Jammu and Kashmir chapter of Bharat Scouts and Guides today. Recalling his school days and association with scouting movement, Dr Abdullah said he was proud of his school education where physical and mental development of students used to be the guiding principle of the school administration. He exhorted the youth to develop scouting spirit for their overall development. "Scouting provides a blend of physical, mental and moral training to youth to prepare them to share the responsibilities of future," he said. Asking for reposing trust and faith in younger generation, Dr Abdullah said, "Once they are given the responsibility the complexity of the situation of our times is bound to change". The youth should come up with clean mental state without any prejudices which would help in easy resolution of conflicts and complexities. Thanking the organisation for voting him as president, Dr Abdullah asked them to prepare a charter of demands and promised that he would take up the matter with the Chief Minister. He also suggested extending the benefits of reservation to the scouting youth in admissions and employment on the line of Rajasthan and Maharashtra to further strengthen the scouting movement in Jammu and Kashmir.
