Buddhist Studies department celebrates 23rd foundation day

Department of Buddhist Studies, University of Jammu today celebrated its 23rd foundation day in a colorful manner at Brig. Rajinder Singh Auditorium. On the occasion Prof. BPS Sehgal, Dean Academic Affairs Jammu University was the Chief Guest whereas Prof. Dhian Singh Bhau, Director Physical education graced the occasion as the guest of Honour.
Speaking during the programme Prof. Sehgal congratulated the organizers for organizing such a mage event that inculcates the spirit of oneness among the students. He said that for the last few years the department has been organizing seminars, conventions, interaction programmes etc. which are providing quite fruitful results to the students of the department in particular and to the university in general. Prof. Sehgal also extended his full support to the department in arranging departmental tours so that the students may practically be aware about Buddhism and the teachings of the Buddha.
Also interacting with eh students Prof. Dhian Singh Bhau talked at length about the teachings and message of the Buddha, that, the Enlightened one propounded to the world during His life time. He said that if we follow the teachings of Lord Buddha we can really make our society a place of living. Prof. Singh said that as we saw in the modern time every body is busy in the materialistic race and no one cares for others but in spite of this, the teachings of Buddha is playing its role in inculcating the spirit of oneness and brotherhood among us.
Earlier, Prof. B. Labh, Head Department of Buddhist Studies presented the annual report of the department. In his key note Prof. Labh appealed to the university authorities to sanction some more funds to the department so that we could provide better facilities to the students. He gave an overall picture of Buddhism and the Buddha’s message as well as its relevance in the present crisis ridden world and highlighted the role of Buddhist Studies in creating awareness among the people for a congenial and friendly atmosphere.
Dr. R.N.Singh, Associate Professor in the department welcomed the guests and Rahul Dev Bhau, Research Scholar presented the vote of thanks.
Sh. Suresh Kumar, Class Representative of the department very beautifully and smoothly compared whole the programme.
