| Home Guards threaten self immolation | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Jammu, May 19-The agitating members of All J&K Home Guards Welfare Association on Tuesday gave a stern warning to the state government to look into their long pending demand of regularizing their services otherwise they would be left with no other option but to resort to self immolation. Staging a protest dharna in front of the office of the Divisional Commissioner here today, the representatives of the All J&K Home Guards Welfare Association also made it clear that if the state government fails to address their genuine grievances they would intensify their stir by self immolations. One of the firebrand woman home guard Kamla Sharma on Tuesday cautioned Chief Minister Omar Abdullah saying that during their previous meeting with him before the Lok Sabha elections he had promised to make a surprise announcement but then model code of conduct was enforced and they had to wait till the Lok Sabha polls got over. Sharma said that now they are eagerly awaiting to hear from the chief minister what he has to say and decide with regard to our demands. She said even the All India Home Guards Welfare Association has extended its support to their struggle. Kamla Sharma said a cabinet meeting is scheduled to be held in Srinagar on Wednesday. We are hoping to hear good news from the chief minister she added. It may be mentioned that Home Guards Welfare Association is sitting on dharna for past more tham six months and anxiously awaiting final decision of the state government with regard to regularizing their services.
