EARLY TIMES REPORT
Jammu, May 19- The ruling coalition has decided to formulate an Information Technology policy in order to create a strong IT related infrastructure Once such an infrastructure was available it could attract private sector investment in the state.
Official sources admitted that as compared to other states in the country Jammu and Kashmir has remained neglected as far development of information technology was concerned.
According to these sources, the e-Governance agency will streamline the IT related activities of all the departments and provide a single point mechanism for providing all types of IT related resources and services. Under the national e-Governance programme the state Government has initiated the state Wide Area Network (SWAN), a project which envisages the connectivity of all Government offices within the state on a common, high speed date network controlled by state Data centre. The NC-Congress Government has decided to set up 1109 common service centres in the private sector in collaboration with the Jammu and Kashmir Bank. Each internet kiosk will cover six villages in the first phase.
