| Charak reviews restoration work on Mubarak Mandi complex | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Jammu, May19- Mubarak Mandi Heritage Society today reviewed the progress on restoration and conservation work being done on the historical complex under the chairmanship of its Chairman, Gulchain Singh here today. Divisional Commissioner, Jammu, Dr. Pawan Kotwal, Director Tourism, S.M. Sahni, Director ASI, Janvi, Principal Director INTACH, R. C. Aggarwal, Chief Engineer, R&B, members G. S. Jamwal and other concerned officers attended the meeting. The meeting deliberated upon necessary modalities and other measures for making this restoration project of the ancient Dogra monument more result oriented and logical. Besides, it emphasized upon the need of renovation and beautification of various parts of the complex without affecting its originality and identity. The meeting also underlined the need of laying more emphasis on seeking technical expertise and support from other governmental and non-governmental organizations. Apart from reviewing the progress made by agencies like INTACH, ASI GOI and other concerned state government agencies, the meeting also sought innovative suggestions from the representatives of these agencies to ensure the project could reach its real motive of preserving and conserving this historical complex. The meeting also decided to launch a website of Mubarak Mandi Complex to acquaint the people especially the younger generation about the significance of our history and heritage. Likewise, it was decided that UK archives will be consulted to make the project more logical. On the suggestion of Director ASI, the meeting decided to engage a historian or researcher along with Persian scholars to reconstruct the complex in a right perspective as historical and archival research is of utmost importance for the restoration and conservation of any complex of heritage importance. Speaking on the occasion, Charak exhorted upon all concerned agencies to keep a close and strong coordination between themselves which is imperative for the success of this historical project. He asked the Director INTACH to submit the remaining project report related to restoration work of the complex as soon as possible for smooth execution of development and renovation work of this Dogra heritage.
