Jammu, Dec 15: The Red Ribbon Club of GGM Science College, Jammu, successfully organized a Walkathon on 15th of December 2025, marking the college’s second major activity for World AIDS Day 2025. The walkathon was specifically designed to align with the global theme, emphasizing the necessity of community-led action in the fight against HIV/AIDS.The entire program was meticulously planned and executed under the visionary guidance of the worthy Principal, Prof. (Dr.) Romesh Kumar Gupta and convenership of DrRozyBamba. The objective of the event was to significantly raise public consciousness regarding HIV/AIDS, combat associated stigma, and promote the year's global theme, "Let Communities Lead."
The Walkathon commenced from the main gate of GGM Science College, proceeding along a designated route in the vicinity of the campus to maximize public visibility and outreach and covered a distance of approximately 2.5 kilometers before concluding back at the campus. Throughout the route, the participants actively engaged the public by raising powerful slogans and displaying informative posters. Key slogans such as “Stop Stigma, Start Care!” and “Know AIDS, No AIDS!” resonated with the local community. The posters effectively utilized the universal Red Ribbon motif and provided clear visual depictions of prevention tips, the importance of testing, and the accessibility of Anti-Retroviral Therapy. The combination of vocal campaigning and visual aids made the message clear, concise, and highly impactful, turning the Walkathon into a successful educational drive.
The seamless execution of this significant awareness program was made possible by the dedicated efforts of the coordinating faculty members namely Prof. Surinder Kumar, Dr. Maqeem Ansari, Dr. Rohit Bhardwaj, Prof. Vishal Sharma, and Dr. Muzzafer Ahmed Sheikh. The Walkathon achieved its goal of mobilizing youth to advocate for health awareness and community solidarity, further cementing GGM Science College’s commitment to addressing critical social and public health issues. The success of this World AIDS Day Walkathon underscores GGM Science College’s dedication not only to academic excellence but also to fostering socially responsible citizens equipped to champion critical public health and humanitarian causes.
