Early Times Report MANDI GOBINDGARH, Dec 15: Desh Bhagat University Chancellor Dr. Zora Singh was honoured with an Award of Honour by Punjab Governor and UT Administrator Gulab Chand Kataria at the two-day All India Media Meets held in Chandigarh, in recognition of his contributions to the education and healthcare sectors. DBU President Dr. Sandeep Singh was also present on the occasion. Addressing the gathering as chief guest, Governor Kataria emphasized that a free, credible and responsible media is the backbone of a strong democracy. He cautioned against the growing threat of fake news and misinformation in the digital era, stressing that truth verification had become the biggest challenge for journalists today. The Governor said the media serves as the conscience-keeper of society and a watchdog of citizens' rights, and called for ethical, balanced and accurate journalism. He also assured support for the welfare and legitimate demands of media professionals. On the occasion, the Governor honoured eminent personalities from different fields for their contributions to society. Expressing gratitude for the honour, Dr. Zora Singh said the recognition reflected Desh Bhagat University's commitment to student-centric education, holistic development and nation-building. The meet, organized by the Tribune Employees Union, brought together journalist and non-journalist unions from across the country to deliberate on challenges facing print and digital media, labour rights and the future of journalism. |
