| Forest fire averted in Udhampur | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Udhampur, May 19- The timely action by the officials of the Forest Department saved forest wealth from devastation. The forest officials led by the Range Officer Udhampur Lalit Sharma and with the assistance of local villagers controlled the forest fire which broke out last evening at village Ossu in forest compartment 83-U about 30 kilometer from district headquarter. The team after receiving the news of forest fire in village Ossu swung into action and immediately rushed to the spot. The team after hectic exercise successfully succeeded in controlling the fire thereby saving the forest wealth from devastation. Meanwhile, on a report of another forest fire near village Maand in Udhampur falling under compartment 14-U, the Range Officer immediately informed Fire Services and Forest Protection Force Udhampur to take immediate steps. Responding promptly, they brought the fire under control within half an hour. Range Officer lauded the role of forest employees and other allied agencies for their timely response due to which the forest wealth worth lakh of rupees was saved from destruction. He appealed the local villagers to be more vigilant about the activities of mischievous elements who deliberately light fire for their petty gains. He also asked the locals not to use cigarettes, beedies and other inflammable material in the forest area.
