Jammu, Dec 16: Continuing his mission to ensure that government welfare benefits reach the doorstep of every citizen, Social Activist and Chairman of the Samvedna Society, Keshav Chopra, organized a significant distribution drive today at Talab Tillo. During the program, a large number of Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB-PMJAY) Golden Cards and Ration Cards were distributed among the residents, marking another step toward total coverage of social security schemes in the area. Speaking during the occasion Keshav Chopra highly appreciated the efforts of the Director of Food, Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs and the entire departmental team for their efficiency and coordination in ensuring that Ration Cards are processed and delivered to the rightful beneficiaries without delay. He noted that the seamless cooperation between social organizations and administrative departments is essential for the upliftment of the underprivileged sections of society and thanked the department for their steadfast support in making these essential documents accessible to the public. Speaking on the impact of healthcare reforms, Keshav Chopra expressed his profound gratitude to the Union Government for its visionary approach toward the people of Jammu and Kashmir. He stated that the provision of free health insurance to every citizen of the UT is a historic milestone, emphasizing that poor people are taking a lot of benefits from this scheme. He further added that the Ayushman Bharat initiative has become a lifeline for those who previously could not afford specialized medical treatments, as it now guarantees high-quality healthcare for all, regardless of their financial status. He highlighted that the Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB-PMJAY) stands as one of the world’s largest publicly funded health assurance schemes, providing annual health coverage of up to 5 lakh per family for more than 12 crore economically vulnerable families. As of late 2025, over 42 crore Ayushman Cards have been issued nationwide, extending cashless and paperless healthcare access to nearly 55 crore beneficiaries through a network of around 33,000 empaneled hospitals. Chopra also noted that the recent expansion of the scheme to include ASHA and Anganwadi workers, as well as senior citizens under the “Vay Vandana” initiative, further strengthens the vision of Universal Health Coverage.
