PM Fasal Bima Yojna provides financial security to farmers: Balbir
12/16/2025 6:30:19 PM

early times report

Jammu, Dec 16: BJP spokesperson and former Vice Chairman Balbir Ram Rattan said that the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY), launched by the Narendra Modi government, is an ambitious scheme of the Government of India in the interest of farmers. Its objective is to provide financial security to farmers in case of crop losses caused by natural calamities, pest and disease attacks, and weather uncertainties. The scheme is a strong step toward stabilizing farmers’ income, protecting them from risks, and making agriculture more secure.
Balbir was discussing this central government scheme with young farmers from the SC community in village Chak Bakhtawar of the Suchetgarh Assembly constituency. During the interaction, he also answered their questions related to the scheme.
Balbir Ram Rattan explained that under the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana, all farmers cultivating crops can avail of its benefits. This includes land-owning farmers as well as sharecroppers and tenant farmers, provided they fulfill the conditions prescribed by the respective state governments. If a farmer gets registered on time after sowing the crop, an insurance claim can be made in case of loss. The scheme is available to both loanee and non-loanee farmers.
He said that if crops are damaged due to hailstorms, drought, floods, excessive rainfall, cyclones, pest attacks, or other natural causes, farmers can claim compensation under the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana. For this, it is mandatory to report crop loss within the prescribed time limit.
Balbir said that the biggest advantage of this scheme is that farmers are provided comprehensive insurance coverage at extremely low premium rates. Farmers pay only 2 percent premium for Kharif crops, 1.5 percent for Rabi crops, and 5 percent for commercial and horticultural crops, while the remaining amount is borne by the central and state governments. This ensures that farmers do not face an additional financial burden.
He further said that the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana boosts farmers’ confidence and encourages them to adopt modern agricultural techniques and strive for better production. Timely compensation in the event of disasters helps farmers avoid falling into a debt trap and enables them to resume farming.
On this occasion, Balbir Ram Rattan appealed to farmers to obtain complete information about the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana, get registered on time, and make maximum use of the scheme to secure their families and their future.
