| Govt MAM College organizes two-day workshop cum writer's meet on "Nuances of Creative Writing" on 15th and 16th December 2025 | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Dec 16: Departments of Languages, Govt. Maulana Azad Memorial College, a constituent College of Cluster University Jammu organised a program on 15th and 16th December. She spoke about different aspects of creative writing. This workshop was possible under the able guidance of the Principal of the College, Prof. Archana Koal. The program began with a welcome address by the Principal of the College, Prof. Archana Kaul, in which she discussed the importance of creativity and the need for self- expression for students for their future endeavours. The keynote address was given by Prof. Ruth K Masehi. The guest of honour for the occasion was Honourable Vice Chancellor of Cluster University Prof. K.S Chandrasekar. He emphasised the importance of creativity and imagination and encouraged students to develop a literary flair. The workshop was graced by three eminent resource persons from the writing arena. Dr Rattan Lal Sharma, a renowned writer, Sahitya Akademi awardee and chief editor in JK Academy of Art, culture and languages, gave an interesting origin of Dogri, which goes back to the 11th century. He talked about creating a unique style or "bhakhri shailee" which is an important part of becoming a successful writer. He focused on imagination as an essential part of the writing process. These aspects can create impressive characters in stories. He advised the students to create a synthesis between regaling the reader as well as give a meaningful message through their creative ventures. The second lecture was given by Baljit Singh Raina, a famous Punjabi writer. He has written many books. As an eminent writer and film critic, he shared his journey through anecdotes about travelling at a young age. He has an impressive repertoire of books, telefilms and radio programs. The third lecture was given by Shri Sanjiv Bhasin, an imminent Hindi writer. He started writing at a very young age. He mentioned that poetry was an art within us. He gave an informative lecture regarding the various nuances of writing in the Hindi language. He recited his poems and inspired students to embark on the journey of creative writing. The highlight of the event was the student participation, where many students recited their literary renditions and received encouragement and accolades from the Honourable Vice Chancellor for their spontaneous creativity. The second day of the workshop continued with the lectures of faculty members on various topics related to creative writing. Dr Atiya Noor from the English department delivered a lecture on poetry. Dr Jyoti from Hindi department delivered a lecture on short story, and Dr. Deepika Mehra from Dogri department delivered her lecture on various nuances of creative writing. Dr Muneer Hussain, HOD Persian, and Prof. Sanjay Samyal from department of English also gave their impressions about the workshop and congratulated everyone for a successful event. After the lectures, there was a hands-on activity on creative writing where many students participated and attempted to write poems, stories and plays. Neharika Thakur from the 7th semester won the first prize for English poetry, Sunidhi Bhagat from the first semester won the first prize for play. Dhanish Hussain won the first prize for short story in English. Simranjeet Kour won the first prize in Punjabi poetry, Mujeeb ur Rehman won the first prize in Urdu poetry, Veer Verma won the first prize in Dogri poetry, and Khileshwar Rathore won the first prize in Hindi poetry. The workshop was a great success, and Principal of the College Prof. Archana Kaul promised an encore soon to develop and hone the writing skills of students. |
