| Youth parliament organizes workshop on child rights in J&K | | | The Youth Parliament of J&K organized symposium cum workshop on “Child Right Scenario in J&K” in collaboration with Jammu Law College which was supported by Action Aid International NGO. The main focus of the symposium was on the implementation of State Juvenile justice Act 1997 in letter and spirit in the state of Jammu & Kashmir. The function was presided over by Adv. B.S. Slathia, Former President, Bar Association Jammu Sheikh Shakeel, Adv. Suhail Kazmi, Sr. journalist and veteran social activist and Roop Lal Sharma, Chairman, Trikuta College of Education were also present. The speakers emphasized on the fact that the juvenile justice Act 1997 should be implemented in letter and spirit, so that the rights of the children can be protected and their future should be secured. The also talked about the various legal provisions relating to the ch8ild rights and the role of youth in molding the public opinion regarding child rights scenario in India in general and state of J&K in particular. One of the volunteer Subra Hamdani from the YPJK spoke on child rights in conflict with special reference to the J&K. Delegate Zahoor Ahmad of Jammu Law College highlighted the plight of orphans and stressed for youth activism in dealing with social evils like child labour and its remedial measures. The proceeding of the function were conducted by Nusrat Habib, and the function was concluded by presenting mementos to the guests by Nadeem Qadri, Founder President, YPJK and Umer Saleem, Coordinator. The volunteers also comprised of Javid, Chief Coordinator and Aamir Mughal, Sujah, Aaqib, Coordinators.
