| Mufti dubs NC-Cong as regime if fear psychosis | | | Early Times Report Srinagar, May 19: Condemning custodial killing of a youth, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) patron and former Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed regretted that the Government has failed to safeguard life and dignity of the people of this State. In his statement issued today Mufti said that Congress-National Conference coalition regime was looking helpless in protecting lives of people as killing of innocent citizens has been going unabated since formation of this regime in the State. “Killing of Manzoor Ahmed Beig, a 35 year youth of Srinagar city who was tortured to death by the SOG is another glaring example of the failure of the this regime in protecting lives of innocent citizens”, Mr Sayeed and added that the government was either incompetent to deal with the situation or has deliberately unleashed security forces on the innocent citizens. Condemning the unabated and brazen killing of innocent citizens in the State, Mufti said that killing of innocent citizens by the hands of uncontrolled security forces was started as soon as this regime has taken charge and the same has been going unabated in the State during the last five months. “Instead of fulfilling the promises which were made with the people during the assembly elections this regime is creating fear psychosis among the masses”, he said and advised the State Government to learn lesson from the recent experience. He said that the streak of killings of innocent citizens in the State have started damaging the atmosphere of reconciliation that the PDP had built in the State due to its policies and programmes. He regretted that despite assurances by the State Government incidents of human rights violations occurring after repeated intervals in the State. Reiterating his demand for immediate scrapping of Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA) and handing over the internal security to state police, the former Chief Minister Mufti said that this step alone could ensure dignified life for the citizens of state who have pinned great hopes in democratic process. The former Chief Minister pointed out that there is no alternative to scrapping of the Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA) and sending the troops deployed on internal security duties back to the barracks to avoid such tragedies.
