| Govt tools used to keep me away from politics: Leela | | Lost election with a margin of 1.2 lakh votes, the former SAYSS convener says | | Early Times Report Jammu May 19: The icon of Shri Amarnath land agitation, Leela Karan lost Lok Sabha elections to Congress with a huge margin never seen before, but he not ready to concede his defeat. Instead, the former convener of Amarnath Yatra Sangharsh Samiti believes that the government machinery was used to ensure his defeat so that he is kept away from active politics. Leela Karan Sharma today attributed his loss to ‘a well planned government ploy to keep him away from the active politics’. “The existing coalition government machinery did all maneuverings to fail my endeavors which were directly connected to the voters of the area,” said Leela Karan Sharma adding that Congress and NC combine worked more to disintegrate his forte besides consolidating their dual vote bank. He however said that despite his loss, he stands winner because of his efforts that have made effective inroads in the voters’ mindset which had brought him good response from the Jammu-Poonch belt. “I have won De-facto, though I have lost De-Jure,” using phrases said Leela Karan while elaborating over the statistical count of the votes that were polled to the NC-Congress combine in contrast to the number polled in his favor. He said that besides, certain forces inimical to the nationalism and patriotism worked behind the scene which was supported by the Combine that acted detrimental. “Government has nourished some superfluous organizations acting as their paid agencies which freely used the government machinery to destabilize BJP’s infrastructure by illegal means,” said BJP candidate. He also said that nearly 1.50 lakh BJP voter was deliberately deleted from Jammu-Poonch belt to make the dent. Meanwhile clarifying on his present status in Shri Amar Nath Yatra Sangharsh Samiti (SAYSS), Leela Karan said that he still holds the primary membership and is ready to fight ‘tooth and nail’ to any misadventure tried by separatists in the valley against Amarnath yatra that commences on June 7. Further informing about his future plans, Mr Sharma said that he would place his integrity attached to the BJP and also pursue the working of the Samiti to ensure the safe and secure yatra for two months’ period State General Secretary Shamsher Singh Manhas, Media advisor Balbir Ram also were present on this occasion.
