Early Times Report
DEHRADUN, Dec 19: UPES successfully hosted the 2nd International Conference on Advanced Materials, Energy & Environmental Sustainability (ICAMEES 2.0) on 18-19 December 2025, bringing together leading scientists, academicians, researchers, students and industry professionals from India and abroad to discuss critical advances shaping a sustainable future.
Envisioned as a global platform for interdisciplinary dialogue, ICAMEES 2.0 witnessed participation from over 200 delegates, featuring keynote addresses, invited talks, oral presentations and poster sessions across cutting-edge domains of materials science, energy technologies and environmental sustainability.
The conference was inaugurated in the presence of Dr. Lok Pratap Singh, Director General, National Council for Cement and Building Materials (NCCBM), New Delhi, as the Chief Guest. Padma Shri Prof. S. Sivaram, FNA, Honorary Professor Emeritus, Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER), Kolkata, and Jawaharlal Nehru Centre for Advanced Scientific Research (JNCASR), Bengaluru served as the Chief Patron, and Shri Rajendra Singh, Magsaysay Awardee, as Guest of Honour of the conference.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Ram Sharma, Vice Chancellor, UPES, said: "The challenges we face today, around sustainability, are way too enormous and urgent for any one discipline to solve alone. Research can no longer sit in isolated silos or remain only on paper. It must turn into real solutions that improve people's lives. With ICAMEES 2.0, we are trying to create exactly that kind of space, where scientists, industry leaders, and research organizations can talk to each other, question each other, and build together. It is through these honest, cross-disciplinary conversations that we can push the frontiers of materials, energy, and environmental research in a way that is not just innovative, but also responsible."
Over the two days, ICAMEES 2.0 centred on three key thematic areas-Advanced Materials, covering advanced functional materials, nanomaterials, polymeric and biomaterials, semiconductors, photonic and supramolecular materials, piezo- and tribo-electric materials, and catalysts; Energy, with discussions on energy harvesting and storage, renewable and conventional energy resources, supercapacitors, batteries, alternative and hybrid energy systems, and energy conversion technologies; and Environmental Sustainability, which addressed green chemistry, waste management, climate change, natural disasters, green infrastructure, environmental pollution monitoring and remediation, and carbon capture, utilisation and storage.
The conference aimed to document recent scientific developments, enable knowledge exchange between academia, industry and R&D organisations, and encourage interdisciplinary collaboration aligned with national and global sustainability missions.
ICAMEES 2.0 provided a strong platform for young researchers and students to present their work, interact with senior scientists, and explore emerging research directions. Several sessions sparked discussions on collaborative research, future project partnerships and translational opportunities, strengthening linkages across institutions and sectors.
