Early Times Report

Maligaon, Dec 23: Indian Railways has introduced a new modern LHB (Linke Hofmann Busch) rake on Train No. 13161/13162 Balurghat – Kolkata – Balurghat Express, marking a significant upgrade in passenger comfort, safety and travel experience. The service was formally flagged off from Balurghat Railway Station on 23rd December, 2025.
The inaugural run was flagged off by Dr. Sukanta Majumdar, Hon’ble Union Minister of State in the Ministry of Education and Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region. The programme was held in the august presence of Dr. Ashok Kumar Lahiri, Hon’ble MLA, Balurghat, along with senior railway officials of Katihar Division and other distinguished guests. The introduction of LHB coaches will provide enhanced safety features, better riding comfort, improved interiors, superior braking systems and higher speed potential, benefiting passengers travelling between Balurghat and Kolkata. This upgradation reflects Indian Railways continued commitment to improving passenger amenities and modernising train services.
Indian Railways remains dedicated to strengthening rail connectivity in the region and providing safer, faster and more comfortable travel options for passengers. The upgraded Balurghat–Kolkata–Balurghat Express is another step towards achieving this objective.
