| Pathania accuses Govt of gross neglect of flood victims; calls uut “Apathy, Silence , Tokenism” | | | early times report
Udhampur, Dec 24: Ranbir Singh Pathania, MLA Udhampur East while addressing a series of public meetings under party’s initiatives of Atmanirbhar Bharat and Sushasan Saptah at Bassian, Kawa, Kashirah & Majalta launched a scathing attack on the Government of Jammu & Kashmir for its callous and indifferent approach towards flood-affected people. Pathania said the recent floods have caused massive damage across critical sectors, yet the government response remains shockingly absent. Severe damage has been suffered in schools, health infrastructure, roads, PHE (drinking water), and public assets, but relief and restoration are nowhere to be seen. Despite SDRF funds released by the Government of India, not a single penny has been released for permanent restoration of priority sectors on the ground, reflecting administrative paralysis. A meagre amount has been released by PWD for permanent restoration, while priority sectors—education, health and drinking water—have been completely ignored. The issue of allotment of 5 marlas of land to flood victims was raised immediately after the disaster and again during the Assembly session. The Chief Minister committed on the floor of the House, yet claims of allotment lack any public modality, criteria or timeline. Although a press release of recent cabinet meeting says that government shall allot 5 Marlas of land to the displaced. But any formal SO/order is yet to emerge in public domain. No clarity on policy or formula is there for those displaced from State lands. Forest land dwellers affected by floods have not been dealt with leading to a crisis like situation. Total silence on rehabilitation—whether under the Forest Rights Act or through alternative State land. Mr Pathania further remarked, “This government is non-serious and non-committed. It functions in a superficial, perfunctory manner, completely divorced from public interest and the principle of the greatest good for the greatest number. The silence, delays and half-truths expose a deep-rooted apathy towards the suffering people of Jammu & Kashmir.” Pathania warned that people will not accept token announcements and hollow press statements, and demanded time-bound, transparent rehabilitation, with clear modalities for land, housing and permanent restoration across sectors. |
