Chandigarh, Dec 24: The Baal Saarthi Club and NSS Units of Mehr Chand Mahajan DAV College for Women, Chandigarh organised a weeklong awareness campaign on ‘Baal Vivah Mukt Bharat’ under an initiative of the Ministry of Women and Child Development, Government of India. The campaign aimed to sensitise society to the adverse consequences of child marriage and to promote collective responsibility towards its eradication. As part of the campaign, a pledge ceremony was organised in which more than 50 participants, including students and staff members, took an oath to realise the vision of a child-marriage-free India. On this occasion, the participants reaffirmed their commitment towards the education, safety, and empowerment of children. The Club also organised an awareness session on “Making India a Child-Marriage-Free Nation.” Dr. Bindu Dogra, Assistant Professor in Sociology and Dean, Migration, was the Resource Person.The session witnessed active and meaningful participation from over 100 students. Dr. Dogra highlighted real-life examples of this social evil prevalent in certain sections of society and emphasised the crucial role of youth in creating awareness. She also apprised the students of the constitutional and legal provisions aimed at eradicating child marriage. Referring to the progressive ideals of Swami Dayanand Saraswati, she stated that the holistic development of society is not possible without the education and empowerment of women. As part of the awareness campaign, a Poster Making Competition was also organised, which saw enthusiastic and creative participation from students. Through impactful visuals and thought-provoking messages, the participants highlighted the ill effects of child marriage and stressed the importance of education and empowerment of children, especially girls. Certificates were awarded to the students for their outstanding performance. The Officiating Principal of the college, Mrs. Neena Sharma, appreciated the initiative of the Baal Saarthi Club and NSS Units, stating that such programmes inspire students to become responsible citizens and active agents of social change. She further remarked that the programme reinforced the college’s commitment to social responsibility and community engagement. |
