| E&T Dept organizes anti drug programme | | | Early Times Report UDHAMPUR, MAY 20 -The Excise and Taxation (E &T) Department, Udhampur organized an awareness programme on “Harmful effects of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic” in Govt. Higher Secondary School, Garhi to educate the student community about the ill effects of drug abuse. More than 100 students from class 9th to 12th took part in the event. The Principal of the host School, Mr. Yoginder Nath Raina was the chief guest while ETO Udhampur, Ghansham Singh presided. Cautioning the students against drug abuse, the Principal of the School advised the students to refrain from taking drugs, chewing tobacco, Ghutka and cigarette smoking besides educating their nears and dears and elders to stop this practice as it adversely affects our normal life. Expressing serious concern on the indulgence of youth particularly students in drugs like tobacco is alarmingly high which needs to curbed through counseling or putting penal law into practice, to save youngsters from pushing their life to hell. He said the regular use of drugs causes deadliest diseases like Cancer, Asthma and T.B. besides many physical and mental disorders. The ETO also explained the provisions of law NDPS Act-1985 under which stringent punishment could be imposed on offenders. Similarly, Section-5 of tobacco Control Act-2003 has also come into force for preventing use of Tobacco etc. at public places. He advised the students to constitute Anti-drugs and Anti-smoking committees in educational institutions to strictly enforce the provisions of these laws in schools particularly.
