Jammu, Dec 26: The NSS Unit of Dogra Degree College organized a meaningful social outreach visit to Rain Basera – Shelter Home for Urban Homeless, situated at Bahu Fort, Jammu, on 24th December 2025 (Wednesday) at 10:00 a.m. under the guidance of Ms. Simran Thakur, NSS Programme Officer, Dogra Degree College.The initiative forms part of the college’s continued efforts to promote social awareness, compassion, and a spirit of service among students. The primary objective of the visit was to spread warmth, care, and joy among the homeless and marginalized sections of society, particularly during the harsh winter season. Through this humanitarian activity, NSS volunteers seek to extend support to the inmates of Rain Basera while also sensitizing students to the realities faced by the urban homeless. As part of this noble initiative, the students from Dogra Degree College have come forward with heartfelt contributions in the form of essential food items, including edible oil, milk, grains, and other basic necessities. These contributions have been voluntarily collected by the NSS unit, reflecting the collective concern and social commitment of the student community towards the needy. During the visit, NSS volunteers of Dogra Degree College interacted with the residents of the shelter home, offering not only material assistance but also emotional support and companionship. The programme was further supported by Ms. Rajni, Coordinator, whose guidance and cooperation added to the success of the visit. Such interactions aimed at fostering mutual understanding, empathy, and respect for human dignity. The activity also served as a practical learning experience for students, reinforcing values such as cooperation, kindness, and social responsibility. The NSS Unit of Dogra Degree College remains dedicated to organizing activities that contribute to social welfare and inspire students to actively participate in service to humanity. The outreach initiative was conducted under the patronage and visionary guidance of Dr. Samar Dev Charak, Secretary, Dogra Educational Trust, whose constant encouragement towards community engagement and social responsibility continues to inspire such humanitarian activities. The programme was organized under the able leadership of Dr. Bela Thakur, Principal, Dogra Degree College, who emphasized the importance of inculcating values of empathy, service, and civic responsibility among students through active participation in NSS activities.
