Early Times Report JAMMU, Dec 28: Continuing its crackdown against illegal timber smuggling, Jammu (Rural) Police achieved a significant success by seizing a vehicle involved in the illegal transportation of Khair wood in the jurisdiction of Police Station Gharota. During routine naka checking on the intervening night of December 27/28, 2025, a police party from Police Station Gharota established a special naka at the Ghorda area of Gharota. During the operation, one black-coloured Scorpio (Registration No. JK02X-0027) was signalled to stop. On noticing the police presence, the driver attempted to flee and managed to escape. Upon inspection, the vehicle was found loaded with Khair wood logs weighing approximately 15-20 quintals, being illegally transported for commercial purposes. The vehicle along with the seized Khair wood has been taken into police custody. A report has been entered at Police Station Gharota, and the matter has been intimated to the Forest Department for further action under the relevant provisions of the Forest Act. Jammu (Rural) Police remain committed to taking strict action against illegal forest produce smuggling and safeguarding natural resources. |
