Early Times Report JAMMU, Dec 28: Under the ongoing Kamdhenu Operation, Police Station Akhnoor foiled a bovine smuggling bid today at about 0715 hours at Naka Khuga Morh. A vehicle bearing registration number JK02CX-6449, coming from Akhnoor towards Rajouri, was signalled to stop for checking. However, the driver attempted to evade the naka. After a brief chase, the vehicle was successfully intercepted and the driver apprehended by the naka party. During questioning, the driver disclosed his identity as Ranjeet Kumar, son of Diwan Chand, resident of Sunglal. On thorough search of the vehicle, one bovine animal (buffalo) was found loaded inside, tied in a cruel manner and without food or water. The driver failed to produce any valid written permission from the District Magistrate, Jammu, for transportation of the bovine animal. Accordingly, the driver has committed offences punishable under Section 223 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Section 11 of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act. In this regard, FIR No. 245/2025 under Section 223 BNS and Section 11 PCA Act has been registered at Police Station Akhnoor, and further investigation is underway. |
