| Registration begins for Amarnath pilgrimage | | | Early Times Report Jammu May 20: Registration for the annual pilgrimage to the Amarnath cave shrine in began today at over 100 counters across the country. The pilgrimage will on June 7 and ends on Aug 5, the Raksha Bandan Shravan Purnima day or the full moon day in Shravan month of the Hindu calendar. In Jammu today, Jammu and Kashmir Bank Vice President, Jammu Zone Madan Gupta inaugurated the J&K Bank counter at Exhibition Ground. Speaking on the occasion, Gupta said that for annual Yatra total 110 counter have been opened throughout India with registration amount worth of Rs 15 general while the registration alongwith an insurance cover of Rs One lakh would be availed on the payment of Rs 24 per pilgrim. He however said that J&K bank also provided facility of online registration and information over J&K Bank site www.jammuandkashmirbank.net-yatra-2009 The registration for the pilgrimage at the bank branches will be done from 3 pm to 6 pm Monday to Friday, and from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturdays. The facility is closed on Sunday, the official said. The registration for the annual Amarnath pilgrimage-2009 in Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday formally started today at specials counters of Jammu and Kashmir Bank and also online. . The high altitude Amarnath shrine in south Kashmir houses an ice stalagmite, an icon of Hindu lord Shiva. Hundreds of thousands of Hindus visit the cave shrine situated at an altitude of 4,175 metres.
