MAM College lifts men and women Intercollegiate Handball Trophy

JAMMU, Dec 29: The Intercollegiate Handball Championship for Men and Women was successfully organized by MAM College at the playgrounds of Government College for Women (GCW), Gandhi Nagar, Jammu. The championship witnessed enthusiastic participation from various constituent colleges of the Cluster University of Jammu, reflecting a high level of sportsmanship and competitive spirit among the students.
Dr. Vinod Bakshi, Director, Physical Education & Sports, Cluster University of Jammu, graced the occasion as the chief guest. While addressing the participants and officials, Dr. Bakshi appreciated the efforts of the organizing committee and congratulated the players for their commendable performances. He emphasized the importance of sports in shaping discipline, teamwork, leadership, and overall personality development among youth. He further encouraged students to actively participate in sports alongside academics to maintain a healthy and balanced lifestyle.
The successful conduct of the championship was made possible with the continuous support and encouragement of the Hon'ble Vice-Chancellor, Cluster University of Jammu, and Prof. D.S. Manhas, Dean Students Welfare, who have consistently promoted sports culture within the university. Their guidance and motivation have played a significant role in providing students with platforms to showcase their sporting talent.
In the Men's section, the first match was played between SPMR College of Commerce and MAM College, in which MAM College emerged victorious with a score of 8-3. The final match was contested between GGM Science College and MAM College, where MAM College once again displayed a dominant performance and won the match by 9-3 to lift the Men's Intercollegiate Handball Trophy.
The medals were distributed among the winners and runners-up teams.
In the Women's section, the first match was played between GCW Gandhi Nagar and SPMR College of Commerce, in which GCW Gandhi Nagar won by 6-4. The final match was played between GCW Gandhi Nagar and MAM College, where MAM College clinched the title by defeating GCW Gandhi Nagar with a convincing score of 9-3.
Among the dignitaries present during the event were Kajal Premi (Physical Director, GCW Gandhi Nagar), Neenu (Physical Director, MAM College), Ravi Kumar (Physical Director, SPMR College of Commerce), and Prof. Arun Sharma from GGM Science College, who extended their support and encouragement to the players throughout the tournament.
The championship was conducted smoothly under the supervision of experienced officials including Jyoti Sharma, Sahil Padha, Happy Mehra, and Ankita Rani, who ensured fair play and strict adherence to the rules of the game during the competition.
Such sporting events reaffirm the Cluster University of Jammu's commitment to promoting athletic excellence, teamwork, and holistic development among students, while fostering a spirit of unity, discipline, and youth empowerment.
