Early Times Report JAMMU, Dec 29: Humanity Public School, Bassi Kalan, Bari Brahmana successfully hosted a three-day Craft Demonstration-Cum-Awareness Programme from 22nd to 24th December, 2025 in collaboration with the Handicrafts Service Centre, Jammu, under the aegis of the Development Commissioner, Handicrafts, Ministry of Textiles, Government of India. The programme was organized with the objective of promoting traditional Indian handicrafts, creating awareness among students, and encouraging appreciation for indigenous art forms. Students of Humanity Public School from class 8th and 9th actively participated and observed live demonstrations by skilled artisans. Renowned artisans and State Awardees who conducted craft demonstrations included Smt. Sushma Devi, State Awardee in Hand Block Printing; Sh. Arvind, expert in Metal Embossing; Smt. Garo Devi, specialist in Soft Toys Craft; and Smt. Leela Devi, State Awardee in Grass, Leaf and Reed Craft. The event provided students with a valuable learning experience, helping them understand traditional craft techniques, cultural heritage, and self-employment opportunities in the handicrafts sector. The programme also emphasized the importance of preserving India's rich craft traditions. The programme witnessed active participation from students, who gained valuable insights into traditional handicraft techniques and their market potential. The initiative also highlighted the importance of preserving cultural heritage and generating sustainable livelihood opportunities for artisans. The programme was organized under the guidance of Smt. Swati Mathura, Assistant Director A&C, and Sh. Omveer Singh Sheoran, HPO, Handicrafts, Promotion Officer, whose support ensured the smooth conduct of the event. On the concluding day, a competition was organized among the students on the theme "Festivals of India / Dream World". Students showcased their creativity and imagination through artistic expressions. The results of the competition were announced as follows: First Prize was secured by Dristhi Bhagat of class 9th, Second Prize by Priya Rajput of class 8th, and Third Prize by Pranav Choudhary of class 8th. Consolation prizes were awarded to Sonakshi Thappa of class 9th, Manvi Sharma of class 9th, Nishant Charak of class 8th, Shantanu Verma of class 9th, Shridhi Salaria of class 9th, Niharika Devi of class 8th, and Pranav Singh Charak of class 8th. Speaking on the occasion, Principal, Gaurav Charak expressed appreciation for the initiative and stated that such programmes play a vital role in nurturing creativity, practical learning, and cultural awareness among students. He further emphasized that exposure to traditional crafts helps students to understand the value of skill-based education and opens avenues for self-reliance and entrepreneurship. He described it as a meaningful step towards holistic education and preservation of India's rich cultural heritage. |
