| Reasi police nabs drug peddler at Searli naka; heroin recovered | | | Early Times Report REASI, Dec 29: In a continued drive against narcotics and to ensure the safety of pilgrims visiting the holy town of Katra, District Police Reasi achieved a major success by apprehending a drug peddler and recovering heroin-like substance during routine naka checking. On the intervening night of 28/12/2025 and 29/12/2025, keeping in view the heavy inflow of yatris, a naka was established by Police Station Katra at Searli for routine checking and frisking of vehicles and pedestrians. During the operation, a Swift Dzire car bearing registration number JK20C-5483, coming from Udhampur towards Katra, was intercepted. Upon checking, 3.320 grams of heroin (chitta)-like substance was recovered from the possession of the driver, identified as Beeru S/O Suram Chand R/O Thaplar, Tehsil Ramnagar, District Udhampur. The contraband was recovered from the left front pocket of his trousers. Accordingly, a case FIR No. 346/2025 U/S 8/21/22 NDPS Act has been registered at Police Station Katra and the accused has been arrested and lodged in police lock-up. Further investigation is underway to ascertain backward and forward linkages. The entire operation was carried out by SHO P/S Katra Insp. Ranjeet Singh Rao, under the close supervision of SDPO Katra Dr. Bhishm Dubey, JKPS and SP Katra Vipan Chandran, JKPS. SSP Reasi Paramvir Singh-JKPS reiterates its commitment to maintaining the sanctity of the holy town of Katra and appeals to the public to cooperate with police in keeping the area drug-free. |
