| J KCA to hold crucial elections on 16 January 2026 | | | early times report
Srinagar, Dec 30: The Jammu & Kashmir Cricket Association (JKCA) is scheduled to hold elections for its office bearers and Apex Council on 16 January 2026 at GGM Science College, Jammu, as per the official communication of JKCA bearing No: JKCA/MSC/MA/JMU/25-26/1416 dated 20-12-2025. The Hon’ble Supreme Court of India, in the case titled Youth Cricket Club & Others vs JKCA & Others, directed the JKCA to conduct elections strictly in accordance with the Supreme Court–approved Constitution. In compliance with these directions, the Hon’ble Supreme Court appointed Mr. A.K. Jyoti, former Chief Election Commissioner of India, as the Electoral Officer for conducting the said elections, granting him a period of 12 weeks to complete the entire process. Earlier, the Hon’ble Division Bench of the Jammu & Kashmir High Court had appointed former Justice Mr. Bashir-ud-Din as Ombudsman to resolve disputes among the cricket clubs. However, even after more than two years, the disputes could not be settled, reportedly due to non-production of records by the Association. This stands in contrast to the JKCA’s own submissions before the Hon’ble Court, wherein it categorically stated that all records of the clubs were available and in its possession. Subsequently, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) appointed Justice L. Narsimha Reddy as Ombudsman to resolve the said disputes. On the basis of the records available with the Association, the Ombudsman allowed the genuine representatives of the clubs to participate in the election process, and accordingly, the list of genuine representatives was duly published. The initiation of the election process by the JKCA, in compliance with the directions of the Hon’ble Supreme Court, is a welcome step aimed at restoring the glory of the Association and putting an end to prolonged and unnecessary litigation that has hampered the development of cricket in the Union Territory of Jammu & Kashmir. Over the years, the Association has suffered immensely due to continuous legal disputes, which have adversely affected infrastructure development and the overall growth of the sport. |
