| In way of Farooq’s Ministry, Leh Congress writes to Sonia | | NC ensured Congress’ defeat in Ladakh: Spalbar | | Early Times Report Jammu, May 20: Amidst government formation at the Center, as National Conference president Dr Farooq Abdullah cajoles with the Congress leadership in New Delhi with his wholehearted support, the ‘hurt and betrayed’ Congress unit of Ladakh has strongly pleaded before the party high command to punish the National Conference instead of honouring them with a Ministerial berth at Center for violating the coalition dharma. After a meeting of the District Congress Committee Leh, its president, Rigzin Spalbar has forwarded resolution to the Congress President Sonia Gandhi and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh informing them that National Conference and its leadership –Dr Farooq Abdullah and Omar Abdullah –should be held responsible for Congress’s defeat in Ladakh Parliamentary constituency. The resolution further added that the National Conference willfully fielded a proxy candidate in Ladakh to defeat the coalition nominee P Namgyal. Spalbar said in letter to the Congress leadership that the National Conference never endorsed the candidature of the Indian National Congress from day one in respect of the Ladakh parliamentary constituency. None of the district and state level NC leaders agreed to campaign in support of the Congress candidate P. Namgyal. It was the duty and the responsibility of the National Conference president Dr. Farooq Abdullah and the chief minister of the state Sh. Omar Abdullah to honor the decision of the coalition partners. On one hand Sh. Rahul Gandhi, general secretary, AICC, campaigned in Ananthnag in support of the NC candidate. But on the other hand NC leaders distanced themselves from campaigning in favor of the coalition candidate P. Namgyal of the Congress party in Ladakh. To our surprise, Spalbar said, NC fielded its own proxy candidate Ghulam Hassan Khan in order to defeat the Congress candidate fielded by the coalition. It was also a conspiracy plotted against the Congress party by the National Conference along with the Ladakh Union Territory Front (LUTF). While campaigning in the vehicle given to him by the National Conference, the proxy candidate Ghulam Hassan Khan openly appealed to the voters saying that he had the full support of the NC high command. Both Sh. Hassan Khan and LUTF candidate were financially supported by the NC for their campaigns. Hence DCC Leh ridicules the ‘homecoming’ statement given by Dr. Farooq Abdullah at a press conference on 18th May when Ghulam Hassan Khan enacted the drama of rejoining the NC. Khan has never left the National Conference, and if he had left the party the NC high command should have expelled him from the party rather than inviting him back to the Party. The resolution said that the presence of Congress in Kargil is negligible while in Leh the party has got the support of the majority at the grassroots level. Unfortunately due to such an untrustworthy and disloyal coalition partner like the National Conference in the state the future of Congress is looking bleak. Since NC has already honored Sh. Hassan Khan, we know that NC will now honor all those who directly or indirectly supported Khan. The NC-led Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council in Kargil is still being run in alliance with the councilors of LUTF. We have also learnt that despite all betrayals and unfaithful acts against the Congress party, the NC is being rewarded by giving berth in the Ministry at the Centre. Secondly as Dr. Abdullah, who is a Rajya Sabha MP, is now elected to the Lok Sabha, the Rajya Sabha seat is going to be fallen vacant. DCC Leh, therefore, pleads with the Congress high command to kindly nominate Sh P. Namgyal, former union minister and senior Congress leader from Leh to the Rajya Sabha instead of a member again from the NC. “In view of the above circumstance DCC Leh believes that NC has deceived its coalition partner by violating coalition norms and principles. Therefore the DCC Leh through this resolution urges upon the J&K Pradesh Congress Committee and AICC high commands to kindly take appropriate action against the National Conference for violation of coalition agreement and for breach of trust”, the resolution added.
