| NFR introduces new time table with enhanced connectivity and passenger-centric initiatives | | | Early Times Report MALIGAON, Dec 31: Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has introduced its New Time Table, effective from 1st January 2026, bringing with it several passengers centric and operationally significant improvements aimed at strengthening railway connectivity in the NE Region and beyond. As part of the new time table, NFR has regularized the 20 new train services which had been introduced during 2025 across various important routes. These services include Mail/Express & Passenger trains connecting key destinations such as Guwahati, Sairang, Dibrugarh, Agartala, North Lakhimpur, Katihar, Jogbani, Anand Vihar and several other major locations of the nation, providing additional travel options to passengers, particularly in long-distance and previously tough to access corridors. Further to enhance passenger convenience, the frequency of certain existing train services has also been increased. For e.g. passenger trains operating between Silchar and Mahishashan, which were earlier running only two days a week, have now been upgraded to operate six days a week. This enhancement is expected to greatly benefit daily commuters and passengers from the Barak Valley region by offering more flexible and reliable travel options. The new time table has also formally incorporated Special trains that are operated during peak travel periods. A total of 12 pairs of Special trains running on important long-distance routes have been included, ensuring better planning and readiness to handle seasonal rush during festivals, holidays and high-demand periods. A major highlight of the new time table is the provisioning of a large number of new stoppages for existing trains. More than 170 new stoppages have been provided at stations spread across Assam, Tripura, West Bengal, Bihar and adjoining areas. These new stoppages will bring railway services closer to passengers in semi-urban and rural areas, improving accessibility to rail transport and reducing the need for long road journeys to major stations for boarding designated trains. In a significant step towards modernization and energy efficiency, NFR has also carried out extensive shifting of traction changing points, enabling many trains to operate under end-to-end electric traction. Several important long-distance and premium trains, including Rajdhani and several other Express/Mail train services that have been brought under continuous electric traction. This initiative will result in smoother train operations, reduced dependence on diesel locomotives, lower carbon emissions and improved punctuality. |
