| CJM rejects bail applications of Vehicle lifters’ Gang | | | Early Times Report Jammu, May 21- Rejecting the bail applications of alleged gang of vehicle lifters on whose disclosure 14 vehicles are reported to have recovered and seized, CJM Jammu YP Bourney, after hearing both the sides, observed that there are serious allegations against the applicants to be indulging in organized crime. The recovery and of vehicles at their instance substantiates the accusations. The investigation is in progress as the vehicles are stolen from different localities and it would certainly take some time for the investigating agency to identify the individual cases and also to complete the investigation. Considering the enormity of the cases in which the involvement of the applicants are shown, Court finds substance in the apprehension of investigating agency that given a chance applicants would make every endeavor to influence the witnesses directly or indirectly being gangsters. With these observations Court rejected the bail of the Vehicle lifters. The Special Investigation Team which was entrusted to investigate the case has submitted its report in the Court through Chief Prosecuting Officer Pawan Khajuria in which it has been revealed that applicants have organized themselves as a gang of vehicle lifters, having indulged in a series of vehicle theft cases and on their disclosure/ statements 14 vehicles are reported to be recovered and seized. It is alleged that applicant Vinod Singh is the key maker who used to fabricate duplicate keys used for the commission of offence. According to the counsels of the applicants’ the applicant Shabir Ahmed alleged kingpin of the gang has been decorated with several police medals including President’s Medal, DGP’s Medal besides numerous letters of appreciations. The applicant has been framed for some ulterior motives and earlier also he has been implicated in a case of rape in which he has been granted bail. On the other hand CPO Pawan Khajuria appearing for the police submitted that applicants are involved in a serious offence and as many as 14 cases have already been established. The investigation is at initial stage as it is a big racket of vehicle lifters and granting bail to them at this stage could not only hamper the course of investigation but they also make every influence on the witnesses not to come forward.
