Early Times Report UDHAMPUR, Jan 2: During the year 2025, Udhampur Police carried out an intensive and sustained drive against the menace of bovine smuggling across the district. From January to December 2025, a total of 188 cases related to bovine smuggling were registered, resulting in the arrest of 220 persons, including 212 accused involved in bovine smuggling and 08 habitual offenders booked under PSA. As part of the enforcement action, 1,189 bovines were successfully rescued and 144 vehicles used in smuggling activities were seized. Further, stringent action was taken against violators, leading to the cancellation/suspension of 48 documents, including 28 vehicle Registration Certificates and 20 driving licenses. On the prosecution front, 122 convictions were secured, reflecting strong investigation and effective follow-up by Udhampur Police. In a major financial crackdown, properties linked to bovine smugglers were targeted. In 11 cases, 11 vehicles worth approximately ?1.50 crore were attached under relevant legal provisions, dealing a significant blow to the illegal network. |
