| 98 aspirants vying for each KAS seat | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, May 21: As many as 98 aspirants are appearing for each seat of the coveted Jammu and Kashmir Combined Services, popularly known as KAS, examinations for which are being held on Saturday and Sunday. Though the number of students competing against each seat is not very high as compared to the previous examinations or all Indian Civil Services examination but the total number of students appearing this year is highest ever. As many as 39,362 candidates, the highest-ever number, will appear for 398 posts in the preliminary test of J&K Combined Competitive Services Examination (CCSE) on May 23 and 24 at 78 examination centres in the two capital cities of the State. The Jammu and Kashmir State Public Service Commission (JKPSC) has made elaborate arrangements for smooth conduct of preliminary examinations and appointed Observers for each of the 34 examination centres at Srinagar and 44 at Jammu. At a few centres, close circuit television cameras (CCTVs) have also been installed to monitor the conduct of exams. The PSC has asked the candidates to bring with themselves their admit cards, clipboard or cardboard, blue or black ballpoint, H.B pencil, pencil sharpener and eraser as loaning and interchanging of articles will not be allowed in the examination halls. No other material will be allowed inside the venue of examination also. The PSC has also disallowed bringing of mobile phones to the examination centres and stated that if anybody brings mobile phones inside the examination hall, it will be treated as an attempt to resort to unfair means and the examination of that candidate shall be cancelled. Candidates have also been advised to ensure that they reach the venue of examination half-an-hour before the scheduled time of examination and no candidate will be allowed in the examination centre 10 minutes after the commencement of exams. Also, no candidate will be allowed to leave the examination hall before the expiry of allotted time. The PSC has stated that the evaluation of OMR answer-sheet is done series-wise and the question booklets are in four series of A, B, C and D, adding that if a candidate forgets to enter his question booklet series in the OMR answer-sheet or make wrong entry of question booklet series, he will not get the correct result even if he has answered all questions correctly. The candidates have been asked to remain extremely careful while making entry of question booklet series on the OMR answer- sheet as well as writing roll numbers correctly on the answer-sheet. All the candidates have been asked to mark answers either with blue or black ballpoint pen or HB pencil and blacken/darken only one circle against each question.
