BJP’s demand for separate State of Jammu is Dangerous game plan: Rattan Lal Gupta
1/6/2026 6:52:59 PM

early times report

Jammu, Jan 6: The National Conference strongly condemns the BJP’s demand for the creation of a separate State of Jammu, terming it a dangerous, irresponsible, and anti-people game plan that threatens the unity of Jammu & Kashmir and undermines the national interest.
This divisive demand is a deliberate attempt to fragment Jammu & Kashmir on regional and communal lines, which has historically remained a symbol of pluralism, coexistence, and unity. Such politics is not only harmful for J&K but also poses a serious threat to the integrity and security of the nation, especially in a sensitive border region.
In a press statement issued here at Sher-e- Kashmir Bhavan, Jammu, Mr Rattan Lal Gupta said that the BJP is raising this dangerous issue to divert public attention from its utter failure—failure to restore Statehood, failure to provide employment to youth, failure to ensure development, and failure to address rising prices and economic distress in Jammu as well as Kashmir.
At a time when the entire Jammu & Kashmir is united in demanding restoration of full Statehood, the BJP is trying to weaken this constitutional struggle by floating the idea of further division.
This clearly exposes the BJP’s intention to delay Statehood indefinitely and keep people deprived of their democratic rights. The demand for a separate Jammu State will lead to regional mistrust, communal polarisation, administrative chaos, and economic uncertainty. It will neither solve Jammu’s problems nor bring development; instead, it will further marginalise the people and deepen alienation.
The National Conference firmly believes that the real issues of Jammu—jobs, infrastructure, farmers’ welfare, and basic civic amenities—cannot be addressed through divisive politics, but through democratic empowerment and restoration of Statehood, he said.
Mr Gupta warn the BJP to stop playing with the future of Jammu & Kashmir for narrow political gains. Any attempt to divide J&K will be strongly opposed politically and democratically by the National Conference
