| Geelani, Yaseen, 6 others under house arrest | | | Early Times Report Srinagar May 22 About a dozen separatist leaders, including Chairman of breakaway Hurriyat Conference (HC) Syed Ali Shah Geelani and Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) chief Mohammad Yaseen Malik remained under house arrest in the Kashmir valley, where life returned to normal today after yesterday's shutdown. Mr Geelani and over half a dozen Hurriyat leaders, including Mohammad Ashraf Sehrayee, Raja Mehrajuddin and Mohammad Ashraf Laway remained under house arrest, a spokesman of the HC Aiyaz Akbar said today. He said Mr Geelani remained under house arrest since May 18 while restriction on others was imposed on May 20 and yesterday morning. Mr Akbar said the Hurriyat chairman was not being allowed to leave his Hyderpora house by the security force personnel deployed outside his house. Expressing surprise over the continued house arrest of Mr Malik, a spokesman of the JKLF told today that Mr Malik was not being allowed to move out of his Maisuma residence since Monday evening. A large number of Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and Police personnel remained deployed outside his house, the spokesperson added. JKLF chief was released recently after more than three weeks of house arrest. He strongly criticised the authorities for putting Mr Malik under house arrest and said he has no rally or meeting scheduled for today. Meanwhile, shops and business establishments reopened here this morning and work in government offices, educational institutions and bank was normal. Traffic was also plying on all routes normally. On a call given by the moderate HC, a complete shut down on the martyrdom of Mirwaiz Moulvi Mohammad Farooq and Khawaja Abdul Gani Lone crippled life yesterday.
