65 budding scientists’ awarded S&T scholarship

JAMMU, MAY 22 - As a part of ‘Earth Day’ celebration, J&K State Council for Science & Technology, 65 meritorious students of Jammu were awarded scholarship in a function organized at Indian Institute of Integrative Medicine (IIIM), Canal Road.
Principal Secretary, Science & Technology and IT, Dr. Arun Kumar was the chief guest while Scientist ‘G’IIIM, Jammu, Dr. A. K. Suri was the guest of honour.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Kumar lauded the efforts of the State Science and Technology Council for encouraging students to participate in the talent hunt programme. He said that science involves systematic and organized enquiry into the natural world and its phenomenon, which in turn promotes new and innovative ideas, by involving young minds.
The J&K State Council for Science and Technology is giving scholarships to the students pursuing science subjects at +10, +12 and PG levels. The students are entitled for the State Science & Technology Council Scholarship after qualifying the science talent promotion-screening test conducted by the department.
The Ist and 2nd prize at Middle class level were bagged by Mantisha Gupta of class 9th and Suditi Antahal of class 9th of Presentation Convent School, Jammu while as 3rd prize was bagged by JuneMaya, 6th class student of Government Girls High School, Gandhi Nagar, Jammu.
The Ist and 2nd prize at Higher Secondary class level were bagged by Syed Aaisha and Hardika Khajuria of class 10th of Presentation Convent School, Jammu while as 3rd prize was bagged by Sumit Verma of 10th class of Government Boys Higher Secondary School, Gandhinagar. The Ist, 2nd and d3rd prizes were carrying the cash amount of Rs. 1000, Rs. 750 and Rs. 500 plus certificates respectively.
Earlier, students from Presentation Convent School, Jammu, Government Boys Higher Secondary School and Government Girls High School, Jammu participated in the Science painting competitions at lower, middle and higher class levels organized by State Science and Technology Council on May 1 and 2 at Government Girls High School, Gandhinagar, Jammu and Presentation Convent School, Jammu. The topics at lower class, middle class and higher class levels were ‘The environment around you’, ‘Global warming’ and ‘violent earth’.
