| Govt committed to welfare : Slathia | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, May 22-Minister for Industries & Commerce, CAPD, Labour and Employment Mr. Surjit Singh Slathia has said that government is committed to uplift the under privileged and downtrodden sections of the society. He said that several welfare measures have been initiated both by central and state governments for weaker sections of the society. The Minister was speaking at a function held at Gurha Morh in Vijaypur town of Samba district today. The function was jointly organized by the Social Welfare Department and Rural Development Department. Mr. Slathia on the occasion distributed cheques amounting to Rs. 22 lakh among 842 beneficiaries of Samba district living below poverty line. The beneficiaries were covered under old age, physically handicapped, national family benefit scheme and widow pension. The amount disbursed also included Rs. 6 lakh under IAY to 42 beneficiaries for the upgradation/construction of their houses. Mr. Slathia called upon the people to come forward and take maximum benefits of the various welfare schemes launched by Central and State Governments for all round development. He said that Vijaypur town would be developed on modern lines and all basic amenities would be upgraded by providing road connectivity, electricity, drinking water, educational institutions etc to people at their doorsteps. He asked the officers to redouble their efforts and accelerate the pace of work on all ongoing projects so that they were completed in stipulated time frame. He directed them to ensure frequent visits in neglected areas of their jurisdiction and take stock of people’s problems for on spot redressal. He asked the Social Welfare and Rural Development authorities to fix a day in their respective offices for registration of remaining pension cases for the benefit of people. A large number of people of Ramgarh, Nandpur, Samba, Purmandal, Gurha Slathia, Bari Brahamna, Vijaypur, Khanpur and Gho Brahamna of Samba district met the Minister and projected their problems being faced by them in their respective areas. He gave patient hearing to them and assured that projected problems would be looked into on priority basis. Director, Social Welfare Department, Jammu, District Social Welfare Officer, Samba, Block Development Officer, Vijaypur and other senior officers of Rural Development, Public Health Engineering, Power Development and Social Welfare Departments were present on the occasion.
