| Infiltration bid foiled in Kashmir, three killed | | | Early Times Report Srinagar, May 22 : Alert troops foiled yet another major infiltration bid when they gunned down three heavily armed militants near the Line of Control (LoC) in Tangdhar sector in Jammu and Kashmir. A defence ministry spokesman said that troops guarding the border noticed a group of militants sneaking into this side from Pakistan occupied Kashmir (PoK) under the cover of darkness this morning. When challenged and asked to surrender near a particular area on this side of the LoC, the militants opened fire. The fire was returned and in the fierce clash three infiltrators were killed so far, he said. The operation was still going on when the reports last came in, he said. About 60 militants have infiltrated into this side from PoK since January this year. This 32 were killed near the LoC while eight were buried under a huge snow avalanche. A senior army officer said recently that hundreds of militants, mostly foreigners, were waiting across the border to sneak into this side. However, troops, who have already intensified night and foot patrolling all along the border, are on high alert to scuttle any such infiltration attempt.
