Swachh R-Day Campaign: Mandeep Kaur reviews sanitation and encroachment issues in Janipur-Paloura areas

JAMMU, Jan 15: As part of the Swachh Republic Day campaign being run by the Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC), Mandeep Kaur, Commissioner Secretary, Housing and Urban Development Department, along with Dr. Devansh Yadav, Commissioner, Municipal Corporation Jammu, today undertook a detailed review of sanitation and encroachment-related issues in Wards No. 34, 35, 36, 37, and 38.
The inspection covered major localities including Old Janipur, High Court Chowk, Powerhouse, Lakkar Mandi, Janipur Colony, Paloura, Patoli and surrounding areas. The senior officers conducted on-spot assessments of cleanliness levels in streets, lanes, drains, and public spaces, reviewed solid waste management systems, and examined the extent of encroachments on roads, footpaths, and other public places.
During the visit, Ms. Mandeep Kaur emphasized that the Swachh Republic Day campaign aims to ensure a clean, hygienic, and orderly city ahead of Republic Day celebrations. She directed the concerned officers to ensure daily and thorough cleaning of all areas, timely lifting of garbage, proper segregation of waste, and uninterrupted door-to-door garbage collection. She also instructed officials to take firm and sustained action against illegal encroachments, particularly those causing inconvenience to pedestrians and disrupting traffic flow, while ensuring that enforcement drives are carried out in a humane and lawful manner.
Dr. Devansh Yadav briefed the Commissioner Secretary about the ongoing sanitation drives and enforcement measures being implemented by the Jammu Municipal Corporation. He instructed JMC field staff, along with the sanitation company engaged by the Corporation, to further intensify cleanliness operations by deploying adequate manpower and machinery, ensuring punctual attendance of sanitation workers, and maintaining high service standards across all wards. He stressed that close coordination between municipal officials and the sanitation agency is essential for achieving the objectives of the Swachh Republic Day campaign.
The officers also interacted with local residents and shopkeepers, listened to their grievances, and encouraged them to actively cooperate with the Municipal Corporation and the sanitation company by avoiding littering, ensuring proper disposal of waste, and refraining from encroachments on public land. Residents were also made aware of the importance of collective participation in keeping the city clean and presentable during the national celebrations.
The Jammu Municipal Corporation reiterated its commitment to sustaining the momentum of the Swachh Republic Day campaign and ensuring visible improvement in sanitation, cleanliness, and civic discipline across all wards of the city.
