| 3 dead while cleaning well in Kathua village | | | Early Times Report Jammu, May 22: Three people, including a father and his son, were killed and as many were injured, two of them critically while they were cleaning a well this morning in a remote village of tehsil Hiranagar in district Kathua of Jammu and Kashmir, police sources said here today. ‘’Three people of village Kanah in Hiranagar died on the spot and three were rescued from 100-feet deep well with the help of a team of fire and emergency services besides police and locals and were later referred to the Government Medical College Jammu,’’ police sources said. Police sources said they (victims), with the help of an electronic genset, were pumping water out of the well, which stopped functioning in between due to a technical snag. ‘’One of the deceased identified as Raman Kumar when tried to adjust the pipe, slipped and fell into the well while his father Bal Krishan and one Ravinder Kumar jumped to rescue him,’’ police added. The trio raised alarm for help but died of suffocation due to pungent smell while three people from a nearby village on hearing hue and cry also tried to rescue them but failed and they also slipped into the well. ‘’On receiving information about the incident, police party and fire tenders rushed to the spot and rescued three people while the bodies of the deceased were also fished out,’’ sources added. The deceased were identified as Bal Krishan, son of Daya Ram, Raman Kumar, son of Bal Krishan and Ravijder Kumar, son of Bhola Ram. The injured referred to the GMC Jammu were Pawan Kumar and Madan Lal, both sons of deceased Bal Krishan and Rinku, son of Shadi Lal.
