Early Times Report
Lucknow, Jan 15: Under the leadership of CM Yogi Adityanath, the state broke free from the foodgrain crisis, black marketing and chaos that prevailed before 2017. Within around nine years, farmers moved decisively on the path of prosperity. The impact of the CM Yogi Model is evident in the fact that Uttar Pradesh, which has only 10 percent of the country’s total agricultural land, now contributes 21 percent to national foodgrain production. Before 2017, the growth rate of the agricultural sector was stuck in single digits, but under the Yogi government, the growth rate of agriculture and allied sectors has exceeded 14 percent over the last three years. UP farmers have truly reached from “Khet se Khushhali.” With the policies of the double-engine government, agriculture in Uttar Pradesh has entered a new era of productivity. The government’s vision and policies regarding agriculture transformed a scenario where farmers once felt marginalized. Whether it was the decision taken immediately after assuming power in 2017 to waive farmer’s loans worth ₹36,000 crore, or the first ever “Lab to Land” Viksit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan, under which scientists directly engaged with 23.30 lakh farmers across 14,170 villages of Uttar Pradesh, the Yogi era redefined farming. Agriculture is no longer just a means of livelihood but has become the axis of development. By prioritizing agriculture and ensuring transparent systems, the face of Uttar Pradesh changed within nine years. The agricultural framework did not remain confined to schemes alone, but became a medium for real transformation on the ground. Farmers who once struggled with debt, irrigation and delayed payments were brought to the center of government priorities. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath made it clear upon assuming office that farmers are not merely a vote bank, but the backbone of the state’s economy. With this approach, several reforms were initiated in the agricultural sector. Crop procurement at Minimum Support Price became transparent. Payment systems were made time bound. Farmers began receiving fair prices for their produce. Expansion of irrigation facilities made farmers self reliant. Revival of canals, an increase in the number of tube wells and free or concessional irrigation schemes enhanced production capacity. Even in drought prone and water stressed regions, agriculture began to breathe again. In the Uttar Pradesh where farmers were once driven to suicide before 2017, respect for farmers became a reality after 2017. Under the guidance of PM Modi, farmers started receiving Samman Nidhi with a single click, with Uttar Pradesh playing a leading role. |
