| HC puts JDA land option on hold | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT
Jammu, May 23- The Jammu and Kashmir High Court today restrained JDA from finalizing the bidding process in respect of 20 kanals of land earmarked by it for creating certain facilities like school, health care, park and a play ground at JDA Housing Colony Roop Nagar and issued notice to the state of Jammu and Kashmir through Chief Secretary and also to Commissioner/ Secretary Housing and Urban Development Department and VC JDA for filing their objections stating therein clearly whether the land in question has been earmarked for various facilities and the land is available and has not been allotted to any party.
This direction was passed by Justice Mohammed Yaqoob Mir of J&K High Court Jammu Wing in a petition filed by Welfare Association JDA Housing Colony Roop Nagar through B S Salathia.
The petitioners in their petition submitted that an application was filed by them before the VC JDA for furnishing attested copy of the original map of JDA Housing Colony Roop Nagar, but till date same has not been furnished whereas on the other hand JDA has invited offers from reputed builders and developers for constructing group housing sites in the area and in the process 20 Kanal of land earmarked for various facilities in different sectors is also likely to be allotted.
The petitioners further submitted that during a meeting with the Deputy Chief Minister, who is also the Minister for Housing and Urban Development, the Association members were assured that the land under question lying vacant at Roop Nagar shall be used for construction of health care and other facilities for the residents of the colony and other surrounding areas. In the meantime the concerned agency issued advertisement notice on April 15, 2009 to convert its use by developing a group housing site and providing opportunity to the builders and developers to develop group housing at Roop Nagar Colony Jammu. The association prayed before the Court for quashing the notification No JDA/CA-11 of dated April 15, 2009 issued by VC JDA. JNF
