| DC reviews measures to control fire incidents at Katra | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT KATRA, MAY 23 (INFO)- Keeping in view the fire incidents in inhabited and forest areas of Trikuta hills and its adjoining parts which fall in Katra and various other areas of the Reasi district where forests were destroyed in the recent fire incident which occurred at Charan Paduika area and to chalk out various modes and modalities to control the fire incidents at any area, the Deputy Commissioner, Reasi, Mr. Sanjeev Verma convened a meeting of senior officers of various departments here at Katra today. The Additional Chief Executive Officer, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board, Katra, Mr. M.K.Dwivedi chaired the meeting The Senior Superintendent of Police, Reasi, Mr. Anand Jain,, Deputy Chief Executive Officer, SMVDSB, Mr. Verinder Salathia, Sub Divisional Magistrate, Katra, Mr. Arvind Sharma, Divisional Forest Officer, Reasi, Mr. J.K.Kohli, Executive Engineer, Electric, senior officer from fire services, Assistant Director, CAPD, Assistant Regional Transport Officer, Tehsildar (HQ Assistant) Reasi, Mr. Sanjay Badyal, Naib Tehsildar, Katra, Mr. Amar Nath Badyal, BMO, Katra, K.C.Dogra, Executive Officer, Municipal Committee, Katra, Block Assistant Director, Tourism, Katra and officers from other departments participated in the meeting. Threadbare discussions were held with the officers regarding the cause of fire and various modes and modalities to control such incidents for future. The DFO was directed to make the rural people aware to save the green gold by making the Village Forest Committees (VDCs) fully functional and also instructed to identify the actual culprits who are responsible for fire incidents and after lodging FIRs punish those rules. Other agenda points which include fire preparedness in the Katra town as well as on the Mata Vaishno Devi track, registration and regulation of hotels, regulation of traffic, illegal encroachments alongwith illegal Rehris, establishment of power and water survey, domestic as well as commercial sanitation, gas connections, edibles, crime in the Katra town, security aspects of shrine and loop holes also came under discussion. The Additional Chief Executive Officer stressed on the need to control fire incidents through awareness and warning to the general public. He further said that Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board is constituting a Disaster Management Committee for which training to Shrine Board employees would has also be provided. He assured that some of the funds would be incurred for various development works by Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board for which he sought necessary proposals from various development agencies for development in and around the Katra town relating to road connectivity, drinking water, power supply and adequate health services. Shrine board staff shall also be provided necessary training to control the fire incidents, he added. Mr. Verma directed the Sub Divisional Magistrate and ASP, Katra to direct the Executive Officer of Municipal Committee, Katra for proper disposal of waste material which is always dumped along the Katra- Reasi road and is spreading pollution on the track. He said that there is dire need of joint strategy and coordination to initiate development works at various places. He said that VFCs should be strengthened so that fire incidents in the forests are controlled at once and the green gold property be saved. He stressed upon various department like Forest, Tourism, Municipal Committee, Health and ARTO to strictly follow the necessary instructions conveyed to them during the meeting for improving the existing set up to a greater extent. Fire services and Tourism department were asked to conduct complete survey of the hotels and guest houses existing at Katra. Instructions of the government for regulation of traffic and adequate provision of idle parking for vehicles to control congestion in the town also came under discussion and necessary instructions were passed on to the concerned for idle parking of vehicles.
